Essential Tips to Help Avoid Bruising from Filler

Essential Tips to Help Avoid Bruising from Filler

By: Dr. Kate Holcomb, Pure Dermatology

Injectable wrinkle relaxers, hyaluronic acid fillers, Sculptra Aesthetic for collagen stimulation and platelet rich fibrin are mainstays  at Pure Dermatology. While these aesthetic and beauty procedures are safe and effective, some patients may experience bruising as a side effect. There are measures that patients can take BOTH pre and post procedure to minimize the risk of bruising. Check out our tips to help you avoid bruising and ensure a smooth and successful injectable treatment at Pure Dermatology.

Avoid Bruise-Prone Medications and Supplements Before Your Appointment

Some medications and supplements have the potential to increase the risk of bruising. We recommend discontinuing the following over the counter medications and supplements TWO WEEKS before any filler treatment to reduce your risk of bruising:

  • Aspirin
  • NSAIDs (Ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve, and Motrin)
  • Fish oil
  • Vitamin E
  • Garlic supplements (garlic in food is OK)
  • Ginkgo
  • Ginseng
  • Ginger
  • St. John’s Wort

These products can affect blood clotting and potentially contribute to bruising. However, after your filler treatment, you may resume taking these medications and supplements. It is important to note that if you are taking blood thinners for medical reasons, such as a history of stroke, heart attack, or clot, it is crucial to NEVER stop them for an injectable visit.

Use Bruise-Preventing Topicals Before or After Your Injections

This July, we are excited to present you with our carefully curated selection of top-notch products designed to help reduce bruising after injection or injury. Let’s dive into our four exceptional Products of the Month, each offering unique benefits.

1. Dermend Bruise Formula: USE 2 WEEKS BEFORE YOUR INJECTION APPOINTMENT.

Formulated with Arnica oil, ceramides, and retinol, this dermatologist recommended cream helps reduce inflammation, increase blood flow, and strengthen the skin’s natural barrier. Dermend Bruise Formula works best if applied to the area you are having injected 2 times a day leading up to your visit. This topical cream also helps reduce those pesky actinic purpura that appear on arms with age. Dermend Bruise Formula prevents bruising severity,  targets bruised skin, helps fade discoloration and speeds up the healing process.

2.  Arnica: TAKE BEFORE, DURING, AND AFTER YOUR INJECTION VISIT.

Arnica, a natural remedy derived from the Arnica montana flower, has long been recognized for its healing properties. This herbal solution is widely used to reduce bruising, swelling, and discomfort associated with various cosmetic treatments. Applied topically, arnica helps promote the body’s natural healing response and speeds up the fading of bruises.

3. Alastin INhance Post Injection Serum: APPLY IMMMEDIATELY AFTER INJECTION AND TO FADE BRUISING.

After receiving injectable treatments, such as fillers or Botox, it is essential to provide your skin with the care it needs to recover and optimize results. Alastin INhance Post Injection Serum is  specifically developed with ChromaFADE Technology to support skin immediately post injection and to accelerate healing of post-injection bruising.  It has also won a New Beauty Best of Award in 2020.

4 OcuMend Patches: APPLY IMMEDIATELY AFTER FOR UP TO 6 HOURS PER PATCH.

OcuMend® gel patches were launched into the field of plastic surgery and cosmetic dermatology to speed recovery of bruising, inflammation, and pain. OcuMend proved to be efficient in skin recovery from several aesthetics procedures including dermal filler.
