Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a nonsurgical , innovative rejuvenation technique. Your own blood, in the form of platelet-rich plasma, is used to regenerate healthy, new skin tissue and in some instances used to stimulate hair follicles. PRP therapy provides a natural, minimally invasive alternative to surgery with minimal or no recovery time. The procedure, also known as a Vampire FaceLift, involves either injecting or microneedling and then topically applying your own platelets to “heal” wrinkles and scars. PRP gives a gradual but noticeable improvement in skin texture, tone, and color with low risk. The product injected is 100% your own blood by-product. There is no risk of allergy or rejection with this treatment.
This treatment involves the collection of a small amount of your blood (approximately 8 – 16ml). Your blood is spun down in a centrifuge to separate out the plasma and platelet portion. Red and white blood cells are divided from platelets and plasma (clear fluid), leaving you with a higher concentration of platelets (PRP). The PRP portion of your blood contains growth factors that are re-injected into the skin to re-energize your cells into rejuvenating themselves. Growth factors, are very important in the healing of injuries. PRP is concentrated and contains many more platelets than what is typically found in blood. The concentration of platelets, and thereby, the concentration of growth factors can be 5 to 10 times greater than blood alone.
Growth factors are responsible for “growth” in living cells, which translates to collagen synthesis and skin tissue regeneration. These regenerative qualities are what make this technique valuable in aesthetic procedures. PRP can repair photo-damaged and aging skin, as well as stimulate fresh new tissue in scars or hair follicles.
In order to ensure these valuable growth factors penetrate deep into the dermis, we may pair PRP with micro-needling. Microneedling creates “injury” to the skin therefore tricking the body into healing itself, while creating direct channels for the PRP to be delivered. These growth factors then stimulate stem cells within your skin activating new, healthy tissue. We recommend a series of 3 to 6 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart.
PRP is a completely natural procedure, utilizing your own growth-factors. This treatment is safe for all skin types, with minimal down time for both injected PRP and microneedling with PRP.
