What is the Profound® Treatment?

The Profound® device couples radiofrequency energy with a microneedling delivery system to the deep layer of the skin that is clinically proven to stimulate the development of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. The production of these major building blocks of our skin slows down as we age. Elastin and collagen start to break down and skin becomes less elastic thus losing its spring. These changes lead to laxity, wrinkles, volume loss, and a general reduction in skin quality. The Profound® delivers a 100% response rate in a one minimally invasive treatment session.

Profound® is a comprehensive non-surgical in-office treatment that can treat the dermis or subcutaneous layers of the skin. It is the first device with temperature-controlled radiofrequency clinically and scientifically proven to deliver energy directly to the deep dermis to stimulate the production collagen and elastin and the deposition of hyaluronic acid.

This revolutionary Profound® device can also deliver radiofrequency energy to the subcutaneous (or fat) layer of the skin and fibrous septae of the fat layer.  Delivering energy to this layer of the skin allows the Profound® to successfully treat cellulite.

Who is an ideal candidate for Profound®?

The ideal candidate for Profound® is any man or woman in good overall health who is bothered by fine lines, wrinkles and a mild to moderate degree of skin laxity. Though originally designed for tightening skin on the face, neck and around the jawline, Profound® can be safely and effectively used elsewhere on the body. It is also a nice option for improving the appearance of cellulite. At Pure Dermatology we combine modalities to treat cellulite like QWO, the injectable treatment for cellulite, Profound®, as well as injectable stimulators like Sculptra and Radiesse.

Treating cellulite on the thighs is a complaint for so many women. While no treatment can “get rid” of cellulite, Profound® can improve in smoothing the skin in areas prone to cellulite. Common trouble spots with that we use to treat cellulite with Profound® include the following:

How do I know if Profound® is right for me?

At Pure Dermatology, Dr. Kate Holcomb and Dr. Mara Haseltine will discuss your Profound® treatment with you and answer any questions that you may have.  The Profound® treatment is not equivalent to a facelift but can offer an excellent alternative for patients who want to avoid general anesthesia or lengthy downtime. Profound® is also a good alternative if you are not ready for a facelift but want to improve your neck and jawline.

Everything you need to know about Profound®

No. We use local injectable anesthesia.  The procedure is very comfortable after the anesthesia!

The procedure takes about 3 hours in office but may take a little longer depending on the area treated.

You can expect swelling and bruising after your treatment. Some patients may also experience a little tenderness at the treatment sites. The most visible swelling is most notable in the first few days after treatment but will resolve fully, on its own, within 2 weeks. The swelling and bruising should not prevent you from carrying on with your normal routine.

Results are typically visible six (6) to eight (8) weeks post-treatment once your skin moves through its natural healing process. Optimum results appear at three (3) to six (6) months after Profound®, as your body will continue to make collagen and elastin during this time.

Profound® uses your own bodies body’s wound healing mechanisms to produce more natural collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid.  Once your body has made these building blocks to your skin, it is not expected that they will dissolve or disintegrate quickly.  These natural results are known to last at least 2-3 years, particularly if paired with sunscreen, medical grade skin care, and other non-surgical interventions like Botox and fillers. Always protect your investment with sunscreen and healthy living!

Yes! Profound® may be a key component of your customized treatment plan, but it is likely not the only step. Dr. Holcomb or Dr. Haseltine may choose to perform Profound® before your fillers to improve the elasticity so that the fillers may give you more “lift.”  It is also reasonable to perform Profound® after your fillers to create tightening of the skin.  The Profound® can also safely be combined with Botox, lasers, topical products and peels.

Generally, a lower face and neck cost $3,000-$4,000.  This will include pre-procedural appointments and post-procedural related appointments.
