Introducing SkinVive
SKINVIVE by JUVÉDERM is finally available in the United States and at Pure Dermatology in Metairie and New Orleans. For years, this injectable hyaluronic acid has been used in Europe and Canada under the name Juvederm Volite. SKINVIVE was FDA approved in the USA for improved skin smoothness of the cheeks in adults over the age of 21. SKINVIVE by JUVÉDERM is the first and only FDA-approved hyaluronic acid (HA) microdroplet injectable in the US to improve skin smoothness of the cheeks.
While SKINVIVE by JUVÉDERM® is still an injectable, you should NOT consider it like the other fillers we know of. It is a skin quality treatment, more like moisturizer in a syringe. Or some say SKINVIVE treatment is “Like Injecting Hyaluronic Acid Serum into Your Face.”
SKINVIVE increases hydration to improve skin smoothness and provide a lasting glow for up to 6 months with optimal treatment. Also, in a clinical study, patients treated with SKINVIVE™ reported higher satisfaction with how glowing, hydrated, refreshed, and healthy their skin looked*. Compared to before treatment. Glow was reported by patients in a questionnaire using a validated scale that included satisfaction with how radiant their skin looked.

Who is the right patient for SKINVIVE?
Anyone looking for fast results and improved skin radiance, improved skin quality, or skin glow are great candidates. All skin types were treated with SKINVIVE and we have lots of experience injecting Caucasian, Asian, and African-American skin at Pure Dermatology, so we feel anyone looking for more luminous skin or skin hydration is a candidate for SKINVIVE.

What is the treatment like?
In clinical studies in the US, participants saw improvement through 6 months with optimal treatment. In real life, and in Europe and Canade, some patients and injectors report improvement through 9 months. We recommend repeating SKINVIVE treatments every 6-9 months to maintain results.
Will I look weird from SKINVIVE treatment?
Your expectations and concerns can be assessed by all of our injectors at Pure Dermatology. SKINVIVE by JUVÉDERM does not add volume to the face and does not freeze muscles so there is really no change to the face except for healthier looking skin or more dewy skin with lasting results.
Unlike other facial injectables that enhance and augment the treatment area, SKINVIVE™ by JUVÉDERM® improves skin quality in the cheeks by smoothing the skin and increasing hydration.
When will I see results from SKINVIVE treatment?
You should be able to notice a difference in skin quality almost immediately once the minor swelling and bruising from treatment goes away. With optimal treatment, results are seen within the first month. With SKINVIVE, your skin will look smoother and more hydrated in a completely natural way.
Does treatment with SKINVIVE hurt?
We take pain very seriously at Pure Dermatology so we numb you before each treatment with SKINVIVE. Since microdroplets are being placed into the skin, there are multiple injections but they are done with the tiniest needles used in Dermatology. However, Juvederm facial fillers are smooth in consistency and our providers are precise so you should only feel a very tiny sting with each injection. Most treatments to both cheeks take less than 10 minutes and patients report that SKINVIVE treatment is generally very tolerable.
Is there downtime with SKINVIVE?
SKINVIVE has very little downtime, but it is usually only for a few days. Since there are multiple injections into the skin of the cheeks there can be some redness, mild swelling, and bruising at the sites of injection. Following treatment, you can resume normal activities, but we ask that you avoid makeup and limit harsh products for 24 hours.
What areas can be treated with SKNVIVE?
SKINVIVE is FDA approved in the USA for improved skin smoothness of the cheeks in adults over the age of 21. However, in dermatology we often treat patients in a off-label way, meaning we opt to choose additional treatment areas after a discussion with patient and understanding the clinical information of the product being used. In Europe and Canada, SKINVIVE is approved at Volite in other areas besides the cheeks and many injectors also use SKINVIVE on the whole face, neck, décolletage, and hands.
Is SKINVIVE treatment the same as skin boosting?
The technology of injecting hyaluronic acid in tiny microdroplets into the skin with the intention of improved skin health or skin quality improvement, is not new. People have been talking about skin boosting for almost a decade. Heavy users of SKINVIVE (Juvederm Volite) say it has more duration and looks more beautiful than competitor products, and results with SKINVIVE are seen in 1 treatment with optimal quantities used. Also in the US studies, patients maintained improvement through 6 months and 83% of participants were satisfied with how healthy their skin looked at 6 months.
How is SKINVIVE different from other Juvederm fillers?
Our current hyaluronic acid fillers on the market are used to restore lost structure and volume, to plump the cheeks and skin, and to fill in deep folds, fine lines and wrinkles. SKINVIVE is completely different and should not be considered a filler at all. Juvéderm® SKINVIVE is specifically designed as surface-level treatment to provide deep, lasting hydration into the skin, treat cheek smoothness, and improve skin quality on the face.
In a European post-marketing study, changes in aquaporin were observed after SKINVIVE™ by JUVÉDERM® treatment. Aquaporin is a hydration marker that facilitates the flow of water and glycerol into and out of cells. Increases in aquaporin may signal an increase of skin hydration.
