SKINVIVE for Neck Lines and “Tech Neck”

SKINVIVE was approved for horizontal neck lines in the US market in June 2026. The pivotal trial reported that about 74.8% of treated participants achieved at least a one-point improvement on the validated neck-line scale at one month, with 66% maintaining that improvement at six months.

What’s also super exciting about SKINVIVE is that it has been shown to increase Aquaporin 3 in the skin. This is a channel that allows water and glycerol to enter the skin cells. Is SKINVIVE a filler?

SKINVIVE contains hyaluronic acid like many traditional dermal fillers, but its purpose is different. SKINVIVE does not add volume or change facial contours; rather, SKINVIVE is injected into tiny microdroplets to improve skin smoothness, hydration, glow, and skin quality.

SKINVIVE is FDA approved in the USA for improved skin smoothness of the cheeks and horizontal neck lines in people over the age of 21. However, in dermatology we often treat patients in an off-label way, meaning we opt to choose additional treatment areas after a discussion with patient and understanding the clinical information of the product being used. How quickly will I see results?

You should be able to notice a difference in skin quality about 2-4 weeks after injection of SKINVIVE. Because the Aquaporin 3 channels are being turned on, additional improvement in hydration and smoothness from SKINVIVE continues to happen about 8 weeks after treatment.

Does SKINVIVE change the shape or volume of my face? add volume to the face?

No. The goal of SKINVIVE is to improve skin quality, glow, and hydration rather than facial reshaping. Patients typically still look like themselves—just with smoother, more radiant looking skin.

Is SKINVIVE FDA approved for the neck?

Yes. SKINVIVE was FDA approved to treat horizontal neck lines in June 2026. In the pivotal studies the entire front of the neck was treated from just below the jawline to the clavicle. SKINVIVE treatment helps what many refer to as tech neck.

What is the difference between SKINVIVE and Botox?

Botox is a wrinkle relaxer that treats dynamic muscle movement leading to wrinkles of the glabellar lines (frown), crows’ feet, forehead lines and platysma bands. How long does SKINVIVE last?

In clinical studies in the US, participants saw improvement through 6 months with optimal treatment. In real life, and in Europe and Canada, some patients and injectors report improvement through 9 months. We recommend repeating SKINVIVE treatments every 6-12 months to maintain results.

Does SKINVIVE hurt?

We take pain very seriously at Pure Dermatology, so we numb you before each treatment with SKINVIVE. Since microdroplets are being placed into the skin, there are multiple injections, but they are done with the tiniest needles used in Dermatology. Most injections of SKINVIVE take less than 20 minutes and patients report that SKINVIVE treatment is generally very tolerable.

Is there downtime with SKINVIVE?

The downtime for SKINVIVE depends on your baseline skin quality and your tendency to bruise. There are usually some small swellings in the areas where the needle sticks occurred. For most people the swellings last a few days on the face and about 2 weeks on the neck. Following treatment, you can resume normal activities, but we ask that you avoid makeup and limit harsh products for 24 hours.

What are the side effects of SKINVIVE?

for a few days. Because the neck is so thin, you can often see some fine lumps and bumps for a few weeks after treating SKINVIVE until it is incorporated into the skin. These generally resolve on their own. In clinical studies, injection site responses (ISRs) observed in >5% of treated subjects included redness, lumps/bumps, swelling, bruising, pain, tenderness, firmness, discoloration, and itching. Most reported side effects were mild.

Is SKINVIVE treatment the same as skin boosting?

The technology of injecting hyaluronic acid in tiny microdroplets into the skin with the intention of improved skin health or skin quality improvement, is not new. People have been talking about skin boosting for decades, often referred to as skin boosting or more recently skin maxxing. In the US studies for SKINVIVE, patients maintained improvement through 6 months and 83% of participants were satisfied with how healthy their skin looked at 6 months.

Can I combine SKINVIVE with Botox?

Botox and SKINVIVE are absolutely compatible. We often perform them in the same treatment. For those with neck concerns, treating the platysma bands with Botox or off label Nefertiti lift combines well with the hydrating effects and treatment of horizontal neck lines treated with SKINVIVE.

Can I combine SKINVIVE with lasers or microneedling?

While SKINVIVE was not studied in combination with lasers or microneedling, these are compatible treatments. However, for safety and the best outcome, at Pure Dermatology, we like to perform a full-face (and neck) assessment to help each patient develop a unique treatment plan and guide you on your treatment timeline and journey.

How is SKINVIVE different from other Juvéderm fillers?

Our current hyaluronic acid fillers on the market are used to restore lost structure and volume, to plump the cheeks and skin, fill in deep folds, enhance lips, and treat fine lines and wrinkles. SKINVIVE is completely different and should not be considered a filler at all. Juvéderm® SKINVIVE is specifically designed as surface-level treatment to provide deep, lasting hydration into the skin, treat cheek smoothness, and improve skin quality on the face. SKINVIVE treatment does not volumize and does not change the shape of the face.
In a European post-marketing study, changes in aquaporin were observed after SKINVIVE™ by JUVÉDERM® treatment. Aquaporin is a hydration marker that facilitates the flow of water and glycerol into and out of cells. Increases in aquaporin may signal an increase in skin hydration.
